History of the
Great Lakes Freaks
On the weekend of July 16, 2006, Chainsaw and Giggles, self proclaimed bike freaks, loaded up their trusty steeds and headed over the border into the land of Canucks. Their riding destination was the Hamilton Beach Cruise and the CanAm Challenge (Pixie Race). A warm welcome was awaiting as they pulled into the parking lot. The Michigan duo met up with fellow Michigander, Budzilla. Budz had already arrived the night before and was hanging out with the FreakBike Militia - Golden Horseshoe members and their friends. After several minutes of getting to know each other, checking out each other's bikes and taking plenty of photo ops, the cruise took off. The wide array of bikes and riders, along with the great hospitality would burn a lasting impression into the minds of the Michigan group.
Shortly after arriving back into the states, gears in their brains started turning, emails started flowing and their Freakiness took over.
Kenny P, the man who is credited with starting the original FreakBike Militia based in Florida, was notified of the groups interest in starting a Michigan Chapter (or Militia as they are known.) The "wheels" started picking up speed from here!
At this point I'd like to point out that throughout this period a messageboard known as ChopperBicycle.net (also known as CBN) played a vital part in bringing us all together. On CBN many views and ideas were presented and the GreatLakes Chapter was formed.
It was suggested by "GreenVillian" from Wisconsin that our Militia be named FreakBike Militia - Great Lkes. This way any of the Freaks that neighbor any of the Great Lakes would have a Militia. And so our Chapter began!
So who were the founding Freaks of the FBM-GL?
Budzilla, Nogoodnic, GreenVillian, Giggles and Chainsaw.
We also recognize KennyP (Florida), YYZMEC (Ontario, Canada), FrisbeeGuy (Ontario, Canada), HeavyMetal7Speed and his son Ryan (both of New York) as playing a great part in helping to get things rolling! You Guys are forever Freaks of the GreatLakes!
The FreakBikes Militia - Great Lakes has grown significantly over the few short years. We are a hardy bunch from all over the state and surrounding regions. Because of the distance many of our members drive, we ride no matter what! Weather has little or no affect on most of our Freaks!
We are always looking for new Freaks! There are NO membership fees. There are NO age limits, although we do require members under 18 years of age to have a parent or guardian ride with them. Any bike is allowed on our rides. And most important of all ..... You need to have fun!
