GREAT LAKES

Freaky Bikes + Freaky Riders = Freaky Fun!
The FreakBike Militia exists because of the love many of our members have towards the custom bicycle hobby. We allow all kinds of bikes into our group, but we are mainly a custom bike club. You'll see bikes with bolted on accessories, bikes that have been personalized and bikes that are hand fabricated by our members. Mutants, Frankenbikes, Rats, Choppers, Tallbikes, Burritos, Stretches, etc., to us they're all FreakBikes!

We have some of the best members in the world! In the four years that the Great Lakes Militia has existed, I personnally, have not witnessed one self centered elitist in the bunch. We are a caring group of Freaks who like to build up our bikes, "ride the crap outta them", and hang out with like minded individuals!

Many of our members have the knowledge to help others with questions about their bikes and routinely do so on the FreakBike Nation messageboard. Got a question, just go there and fire away!

We try to have our rides all over the state (and sometimes outta state too). Many end up being in the  counties of Oakland, Livingston and Genessee but we do get around to the other areas. Our Freaks are from just about every part of Michigan with the exception of the U.P. Maybe someone from there will see this and join up!
Update ... FreakBike member, "Grindo" has moved to the U.P.!

We not only have rides, we also have many members that show off their bikes at various bike shows. The Detroit Autorama has been known to get Freaked!

We also have a small group that joins in on the Breast Cancer Walk in Flint, so think about joining in when your butts need a break from all that riding!

One thing that definitely needs to be pointed out about our style of rides ...... We cruise! We don't go out there to see how far or how fast we can go. We "cruise" at a slow pace that most anyone can enjoy. Besides, how will everyone know how cool you and your bike are if you go flying by them!

And what about distances you may ask? Usually less than 10 miles. Occassionally we do have a ride that's longer but most are short enough for everyone to get out and enjoy the day. Also we usually stop for a soda break along the way.

Sometimes we have a themed ride or a scavenger hunt or just "shoot the bull" as we ride. At some of our events, we  occassionally have specialty races or events that our members can join in on or just watch.

Some of us venture into Canada from time to time and ride with the Golden Horshoe FreakBike Militia in Hamilton Beach, Ontario. This is usually a weekend of "Extreme Coolness" and is definitely worth the trip!

Our members vary in age, anywhere from a five years old up into their 70s. No matter what your age, we'll make you feel young at heart!

We do require that children under the age of 18 be accompanied by a parent or guardian during any of our events. All children MUST wear helmets as required by Michigan's bicycle laws. It is also expected that all riders/members act responsibly and show respect towards others.

So enough of my babbling! Take a look around and make the decision that's right for you. Hope to see you soon!

And don't be afraid to tell others about the FreakBike Militia - Great Lakes or one of our "brother/sister" Militias. We're everywhere!
Thanks, Chainsaw
